In a full page feature in The Philippine Star on Tuesday, China issued a veiled threat to Philippines. Military analyst Jose Custodio told ABS-CBN’s news program Bandila.
China’s paid feature entitled “Window to China” contained a short ancient Chinese tale about a mantis and its prey.
“The mantis stalks the cicada, unaware of the oriole waiting in the backdrop,” the tale read.
China said the tale “describes those shortsighted people wanting to hurt others, unaware of greater lurking dangers.”
According to Custodio, Philippines should be wary of China’s purported threats hidden in this cryptic messages in the tale.
It is not just an ordinary tale, but rather a form of veiled threat against the Philippines.
“I see this as warning coming from an exasperate China. They are so incensed now they have issued cryptic messages to convey threats. Now if we didn’t get it, something wrong is bound to happen” Custodio said.
History showed that China had been using cryptic messages to their enemies in an attempt to warn or to stop them, which often resulted in conflict when completely ignored, the analyst explained.
