Buying two used F-16 fighter jets for Philippine Air Force (PAF) is a mistake because these would not be of much help in securing the country against aggressors like China. Mayor Rodrigo Duterte told Inquirer.
“The decision to buy two F-16s is really a blunder. How would it help?” he said.
The government should have bought gunboats instead because these “are fast and mobile and can be deployed everywhere.” he added.
Even with the effort to modernizing the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Duterte said the Philippines cannot go to war with China.
“We cannot go to war, we cannot fight China,” he said explaining that Philippines should resolve the escalating conflict through diplomacy.
AFP Modernization was aimed to build a defense system capable of addressing the assessed threats, at a time when the Philippines is locked with a sea dispute with China.
This includes the immediate delivery of at least two of the total twelve brandnew FA-50 fighter jets purchase from South Korea. Contrary to what Duterte claimed, the PAF did not buy two used F-16 fighter jets.
Department of National Defense has recently opened a public bidding for the acquisition of three brandnew Multi-Purpose Attack Craft (MPAC) with remote-weapon systems and missile launchers.
MPAC is a fast boat used by the Philippine Navy (PN) for different missions, which includes insertion and extraction of troops, maritime patrol and maritime law enforcement.
